Dskate U Education Program
The Dskate U Diabetes Education Program is designed to provide participants with current, comprehensive diabetes and exercise information designed to safely maximize hockey performance and, most of all, have fun!
Education sessions incorporate both ON and OFF ice sessions and include focus on glucose control before, during and after exercise.

Dr. Michael Riddell, PhD, Professor and Researcher in the School of Kinesiology and Health Science at York University
Dr. Riddell has conducted numerous studies over the past 2 decades on the metabolic and hormonal responses to exercise and stress in diabetes. He is the founder and director of the Diabetes Sports Camp at York University, which helps young people with Type 1 diabetes improve their sports performance and blood glucose control.
The Dskate U program also includes the expertise of a wide variety of medical and industry professionals, including Endocrinologista, Certified Diabetes Educators, and Medtronic Diabetes Clinical Specialists and more, all with significant experience and insight into managing diabetes and exercise.

About Dskate U
This Diabetes and Exercise Education Program is designed to provide participants, ages 7-17, with current, comprehensive diabetes and exercise information to safely maximize hockey performance and fun! Education sessions will be incorporated into both ON and OFF ice sessions and will include focus on glucose control before, during and after exercise.
In conjuction with the Dskate Nutrition Program and our Hockey and Leadership Staffs, the Dskate Diabetes Education Staff are the perfect medium which ties together our goal of providing a meaningful experience each and every day. With exceptional experience and education, player and parent-alike will benefit from our incredible team-members.
Physiology - what happens during exercise and why can blood glucose control be difficult at times?
Testing - when blood sugar testing should be done and how to interpret the numbers.
Food & Hydration - practical activities to build knowledge and confidence with carb counting pre, during and post exercise.
Insulin - dose adjustment strategies that can help prevent low and high blood sugars.
Safety - managing extreme highs, lows and during or after exercise.
Glucose Control - practical tips for managing glucose control with insulin pumps & CGM or MDI.
HEALTH EXPERTISE IN DIABETES AND EXERCISE
The diabetes and exercise education program will provide relevant, practical education tips delivered in a variety of ways to engage all participants! Based on experiential learning and mentorship, Dskate players experience first-hand knowledge, information and support in "real-time" while learning its impact on diabetes and quality of life.
Covering the spectrum of diabetes care and management, the Dskate Diabetes Staff are an imcomparable group of caring, educated and specialized individuals who not only help teach how to manage diabetes, but how to use the lessons we are learning to become better people.
Beyond a diabetes-specific approach to care and education, the Dskate U Education Program includes a leadership/mentor program which delivers life lessons and character building experiences that lead to greater confidence and belief in-self.
The combination of these remarkable staffs allow the Dskate Hockey Program to seamlessly blend valuable lessons, techniques and information without compromising our goal of having the most fun possible!
Dskate could not call itself "family-friendly" or "The Most Unique Hockey Program in the World" were it not for the fact that we also deliver a 1-2 day Dskate U Parent Education Program, a bonus found nowhere else.
Included with each registration is the opportunity for each parent and/or family member to experience a unique and exlcusive day of diabetes education.
