Helping support and grow the #T1DHockey community, the Hamilton Bulldogs have been big fans of Dskate since our Programs began, and we have to say the same about this exemplary OHL franchise (formerly AHL). Thanks to their participation, "Dskate Night" has twice helped bring awareness and support to the growing number of young athletes living with diabetes who want to pursue their dreams as hockey players. Dskate and the 'Dogs will continue to fight for a better tommorow #OneShotAtATime.
Hamilton Bulldogs (OHL)
Located on the western end of the Niagara Peninsula, Hamilton is home to over 700,000 people, making it the third-largest city in Ontario and ninth-largest in Canada.
In 1985, Copps Coliseum was opened, delivering to the area a much-needed venue to host major events, pro-level hockey and community programming. For 10 years, the venue hosted events like the World Junior Hockey Championship, Memorial Cup, Canada Cup and several exhibition National Hockey League games.
In 1996, the Hamilton Bulldogs began their tenure at Copps Coliseum and have played there ever since, first as part of the American Hockey League, then as part of the Ontario Hockey League, starting in 2015. Over the years as an AHL club, the Bulldogs attracted over two million fans and were one of the most successful AHL franchises in terms of developing NHL-level talent. In 2014, a naming rights partnership was formed with the locally-based FirstOntario Credit Union, re-naming Copps Coliseum as FirstOntario Centre.
The ‘Golden Horseshoe’ is home to approximately nine million residents, accounting for nearly 70 per cent of the Ontario population and making it one of North America’s largest population concentrations. The map below outlines those cities within a 150-kilometre radius of Hamilton.

Dskate is pleased to announce the support and participation of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres at our Dskate Niagara Programs. As one of the premiere professional sports franchises in North America, the Buffalo Sabres are leaders both on and off the ice, and lending their support to the Dskate Hockey Programs and #T1DHockey is further proof of their commmitment to youth hockey and community support.
A member of the NHL since the 1970-71 season, the Buffalo Sabres have quickly become a staple of the community and a fan-favourite. Having twice reached the Stanley Cup Finals, the Sabres are looking up at a very bright future in Buffalo and have their eyes set on success. Building from a new, youthful, core of players, the Sabres have established themselves as one of the premiere sports franchises in North America under the guidance of new ownership and management. Poised to make an impact in their 47th NHL season, the Sabres commitment to winning is only matched by their commitment to their fans and community. A community that, Dskate is honored to say, now includes #T1DHockey.
